NEOPOETICSNeopoetics is a synthesis of mythicalpoetic tradition, scientific paradigm, new media language, technoetic evolution, yogic embodiment, 21st century ritual, and contemporary convergences of archetype and experience. As Artistotle's Poetics and its corresponding Greek theater
provided structures of meaning and rituals of catharsis to ancient Greek society, so Neopoetics seeks to offer experiences that create and describe states of resonance - dynamic alignments of consciousness that illuminate the essence of a whole and unify its constituent parts.
It is through the experience of resonance in our bodies, minds, and organs of perception that we become transparent to the understandings that integrate, evolve, and illuminate our psyches.
the ancients called it an avatar when a god came down and landed in a body... the futurists call it an avatar when a human goes up and lands in the digital... in any case, they are instances of human potential transported and transformed by the technology of poetics.
HARAKTIHarakti was the ancient Egyptian god of the rising sun within a paradigm that worshipped the light of the sun as a living metaphor for the light of consciousness. Harakti Multimedia creates media/performance rituals that aspire to invoke and embody the luminous force of the ancient Harakti. Building upon the journey toward truth and self-discovery in alll of its historical manifestations, Harakti regards mythology as a living body of symbols and forms that connect people to a sense of the sacred and to themselves. Myth is not only tradition, nor is it limited to the religions or histories that propagate traditional mythologies. If a mythology is vital, it should be discovered, explored, experienced, questioned, shattered, exploded, and discovered again. Moreover, Harakti explores mythology in a language that is relevant to the present historical moment. Embracing technology as a major force in the shaping of contemporary consciousness, Harakti integrates the physical body and its technological extensions in the discovery of an evolving, multi-sensory ritual vocabulary that tells timeless stories through new media language forms.
Gemini Performance ProjectGemini is a new performance project created by Heather Raikes (Erick Hawkins Dance Company), Daniel Russell Kubert (Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company), and Pi Keohavong (MOMIX, Erick Hawkins Dance Company). As dancers who think, Gemini aspires to address and stimulate people's minds and bodies simultaneously. We synthesize and integrate media in order to communicate on as many sensory levels as possible. We combine dance, video projection, techno-beats, original text, layered sound, and digital animation to create technoshamanistic performance ritual - resurrecting and redefining poetry in a form that is concrete, kinesthetic, accessible, electrifying, and totally unlike any other experience.
Media Farm
Media Farm is a new media strategy, design
and production company specializing in original
online content. Founded by five graduates of
New York University's acclaimed Interactive
Telecommunications Program in early 1995,
Media Farm creates innovative interactive
content for online networks, digital cable, and
desktop multimedia platforms. An eclectic group
of designers, programmers, and concept
developers in Silicon Alley NYC, Media Farm
translates ideas into digital media in a way that
captures energy, presence, and humanness.
We create digital content for people, not machines.
We think that the key to creating successful
digital content is to capture an honesty and
alive-ness that engages people and offers them
a rich, meaningful experience that they will want
to return to. Combining top-quality design
with cutting-edge creative concepts and solid
execution, Media Farm works within clients'
parameters to create multimedia content that
has virtual presence.
The Erick Hawkins Dance Company was established in 1951 by visionary modern dance pioneer Erick Hawkins following his illustrious career as a
dancer with George Balanchine and Martha Graham. Hawkins developed the Hawkins Technique, a subtle and powerful movement system derived
from his interest in kinesiology and the poetics of the moving body. This technique served as the foundation for hundreds of dances that resonated
with stark immediacy, ritual power, and the pulse of sensous embodiment. Hawkins' deeply poetic dances were always performed with live music,
and often utilized sculptural forms. Company collaborators included Lucia Dlugoszewski, Isamu Noguchi, Ralph Lee, Helen Frankenthaler, and
Ralph Dorazio. Erick Hawkins was the recipient of many awards and honors, including the Guggenheim Fellowship, the Dance Magazine Award,
and the Samuel H. Scripps American Dance Festival Award for lifetime achievement in modern dance. Surrounding Hawkins' death in 1995, final
company performances were given 1995-1997 at the Joyce Theater, the American Dance Festival, and Jacob's Pillow.
